About Nonprofit Compensation Associates

Nonprofit Compensation Associates, Inc. (NCA) was formed in 2010 as a partnership between Bob Orser and Rita Haronian, capitalizing on their combined 75 years of experience in producing compensation and benefits surveys with accurate and detailed data, beginning with The Management Center's Northern California survey which was first produced in 1978. In 2021, we conducted our first annual survey for the Southern California nonprofit sector, Fair Pay for Southern California Nonprofits.

A visionary in the field of nonprofit management, Bob co-founded of three of the most successful nonprofit management support organizations in the country – The Support Center in Washington, D.C. in 1972, the San Francisco Support Center (now CompassPoint Nonprofit Services) in 1975 and The Management Center in San Francisco in 1977.

Bob retired from his work with NCA in early 2019, and is now our Publisher Emeritus. The 2019 Fair Pay survey report was dedicated to Bob in thanks for his leadership in the nonprofit organization management movement for over 40 years. Click here to read the 2019 survey report's Dedication (pdf).

Along with her work on the California surveys, Rita has worked with local sponsoring organizations around the country to produce compensation and benefits surveys for their communities since 2002. She has also produced four surveys for VisionServe Alliance, a national association of nonprofit organizations that provide services to people with vision loss.

Also on our team are Finuala Liberti, Elaine Gordon and Danielle Montague. Finuala conducts research and manages all of our information systems. Elaine manages our relationships with our Northern California survey's regional partners and markets the survey directly, by email and phone, to prospective survey participants. Danielle conducts survey-related research and assists in the production of the survey report.
